Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore birding with Audubon SocietyJoin birding expert and Indiana Audubon Society Executive Director Brad Bumgardner from 8am to 10am for his monthly birding series. Meet at the Visitor Center and car pool to the birding spot of the month. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Actual types of birds sighted can vary and are based on recent sightings of the previous week to determine what locations to visit.

3/25/18 - Bus Tours of the National Lakeshore

West-Beach-Dunes-Sucession-Trail-winterJoin a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore from 9:00 am to 11:00 am or 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for a two-hour tour of the national park in one of our heated, 15-passenger buses. This is a great way to see the park’s amazing winter landscapes without getting cold.

The tours meet at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, which is located at 1215 North State Road 49 in Porter, Indiana. After a brief introduction, participants will board a bus for a two-hour tour, during which the ranger will share interesting facts about the national park and the surrounding area.

The tours are free, but reservations are required. These tours fill up quickly. Call 219-395-1882 to make reservations and to find out more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Every Saturday - Douglas Center Open House

Douglas Center Enjoy fun, family-friendly activities at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Paul H. Douglas Center every Saturday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Then, take the kids outside to the center’s Nature Play Zone where unstructured play in nature is encouraged. You can also help feed the center’s resident turtles and fish or join a ranger for a hike in the beautiful Miller Woods.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national lakeshore at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12. Nature Tots Program - Second Wednesday of every month

Nature Tot ProgramParents and toddlers are invited to participate in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s new Nature Tot's program at the Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Nature Tots, aged 2-4, will learn about nature through a ranger-led story time, crafts and outdoor play. Parents will enjoy meeting other parents and learning fun ideas for bringing nature into their child’s life.

This program will be held every second Wednesday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.
